3.59.4 seconds. Roger Bannister, the first man to break the 4-minute mile barrier (1). That was back in 1954. Since then, it has been broken numerous times by athletes. Once people believe that it can be done, it can be.

I was talking about this with my husband when he was told me there was an Artificial Intelligence algorithm that had managed to beat professional poker players (2). Wow, it can be done. I guess other people will try to replicate it, just like the 4-minute mile.

Now, these feats are at the forefront yet we can apply these principles to our everyday lives and businesses too.

One recent “It can be done” moment for me was when some good friends travelled without check-in luggage with 2 young kids. I’ve always travelled with check-in luggage with my little boy and didn’t think it could be done otherwise so didn’t even bother to try. When I saw it being done, I gave it a try myself and it works. That’s just a simple example.

So if there is something where you think it can’t be done, think again. You may need to build up your skills or confidence to get there, but it may be doable. Tony Robbins often talks about finding role models, reading autobiographies, learning from other’s mistakes and standing on the shoulders of giants.

Where do you need to look again?
