What about all the decisions during the day, being a “soccer parent” taking the kids here and there, what to do that evening, the weekend, the holidays. Then comes the big events with birthdays, Easter, Christmas, who is spending time where, the decorations, the presents… etc.
Phew… what a lot of mental energy that is used up. The mental energy that can be used in other ways.
At the recent conference of my business mentor Sigrun (1), when we calculated the number of hours spent doing such tasks that are often unpaid, we were looking at a full-time job’s worth of time.
There was an article mentioned a few times that day about a popular online course provider Denise Duffield-Thomas who wrote the books Get Rich Lucky Bitch and Chillpreneur. She talked about how she had more help in her household than she did her business. (2)
The number of hours shook me, so at home with my husband, we took a step back and looked at what who did what and reasoned over how we could improve matters. I have talked about how one of the best investments is having someone clean my flat (3) and now it’s time to up the ante – at least up her hours with a few more tasks.
Step by step I’m getting some hours back.
