“Can we grab a coffee? I would love to hear how you came to that decision”.
When I decided to close my old business, I had a few people ask me for a chat. It turned out that they also had such thoughts on their mind. Deep down, they knew they needed some sort of change and it was helpful to talk it through with someone.
When your heart isn’t in something anymore, it’s very hard to continue with the energy and passion you once had. Most of the people I spoke to decided to change their business in some form, either changing direction or reducing scope so that they could have more time to focus on what they were interested in now.
It doesn’t even have to be as big as closing a business. There’s 24 hours in a day so it’s good to reflect upon what you are doing with your time. Sometimes, we do things out of habit or obligation, so by taking a step back, you can see if it makes sense to you anymore.
Maybe you’ve outgrown a networking event and could do with a change of scene, maybe it would make sense to concentrate on a few bigger clients instead of spreading yourself too thinly, maybe it’s time to meet all your clients online?
In order to introduce something new, we often have to stop something else. It’s evolution – so enjoy stopping something.
