What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear this question? For many of us, your first thought may be food or drink. But it’s way more than that.

There are the podcasts you listen to on the way to work. The books you read before going to bed. The newspaper you read or the news channel you subscribe to. Who you follow and the groups you belong to on social media. What you watch on Netflix at the end of the day. What our colleagues say to us.

Then there are resources. The plastic packaging that comes with our food. The water we shower with. The petrol we put in our car. The electricity we use running all our gadgets. The paper we write on. The latest fashion in clothes.

See, we consume a lot. Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of people become more mindful of what and how they consume. I know many people who don’t watch the news and rather read it instead. Many people have started using less plastic. Watching the food they eat. Travelling less, although this may be more of a forced one given the current pandemic.

I’m trying to make more conscious decisions. I’m not perfect but we try in our household to consume more consciously. Where we spend our money, who we listen to, and what we allow into our lives makes a big difference.

What do you consume?
