He waves at everyone that goes by. A friend who lives in the next neighbourhood said he even waves to her as she passes through ours. He always has a big smile and says hi.
One day, I was in a bit of a mood as I was driving home. As I drove into the garage, I spotted him and as usual, he gave me a big smile and waved. I felt my bad mood melt away. It’s like when a baby smiles or giggles at you, you can’t stay cross. I couldn’t help but smile back.
He seems to genuinely enjoy his work, whether that’s taking away fallen leaves or riding his little cart hauling rubbish bins to be taken away, he keeps that sunny disposition.
Years ago, I read the book Fish and the summary describing it says “Imagine a workplace where everyone chooses to bring energy, passion and a positive attitude to the job every day”. This wonderful young man is a walking advert for it.
It might be a funny thing to say but I think the people in our neighbourhood are probably happier for having him. Well, there are definitely more smiles when he’s around.
Smile – it makes a world of difference.
