I’m talking about everyday life where you have taken too many tasks on. Maybe you’re a bit prone to the shiny object syndrome? Or you find yourself saying yes to everything and everyone?
I recently had a chat with a friend about this. He was working on amazing projects, all super inspiring and exciting. I could totally understand why he had said yes to all of them. Yet when I looked at his workload, I wondered how he managed to do it all.
I described to him what I saw from the outside. It was as if he had gone to an all-you-can-eat buffet where everything is super delicious and he had piled his plate high with food. Only to discover that when he sat down and started eating, it was too much. He didn’t want the food to go to waste so continued to eat despite it being too much for his body. Well, we all know what happens at Christmas when you eat too much – you don’t feel good!
I can imagine the next time, he would think about how much his stomach could handle and be more selective about what he put on his plate. Once you realise that you’ve got too much on, the first thing is not to add anything else, pace yourself, maybe let go of some, and most importantly, learn for the future.
Do you have too much on your plate?
