Yesterday I went to the American Women’s Club Christmas Market with my family to visit Father Christmas. I wasn’t really expecting to get anything but I got speaking to a fascinating lady called Andrea who runs a company called Spirited Child (1).
She started producing washable and wipeable colouring mats to reduce paper waste. From there, she moved onto making fabric snack bags and Beeswax wraps to help reduce plastic waste.
Since my little boy started colouring away on one of the mats at her stand, I realized it would be perfect for us whilst travelling. There were many designs to choose from and we ended up with a lovely farmyard picture complete with wipe clean pens.
Standing there, I thought about how I had wanted to use fewer plastic bags and cling film, so went for some beeswax wraps as well.
Both purchases were used last night with my little boy giggling away as he coloured in and wiped away. The beeswax wraps are keeping some fruit fresh in our fridge. Some small steps for us to reduce our paper and plastic waste.
What I loved about Andrea’s business was that she had a strong why; produce eco-friendly products and help reduce waste consumption. Her business had evolved with her family and it made me think about how my business has changed over the years.
