Today’s my birthday and I ask myself if age matters. Maybe this is a question one asks when we reach a certain age

As a young child, I used to think that people in their forties were old. As I am now in my forties, I no longer think that. Funny that eh?

I’ve met young-at-heart 80-year-olds and going-on-retirement 30-year-olds, so there’s more to say about someone’s attitude and outlook on life that is young or old than age.

At the end of the day, it’s just a number. Physically, I feel fitter and better now than I did in my twenties. That’s probably because I eat more healthily, drink less alcohol and sleep more. My priorities over the years have changed. I’ve seen more and know what’s important for me so am therefore a bit kinder to myself.

Birthdays do serve as a reminder for me to get on with the things I want to do. I’ve been wanting to start practicing martial art for a while now. I remember my father starting karate in his 50s, training almost 7 days a week and getting his black belt in a short period of time. It goes to show that it’s never too late to do something you want to do. But the earlier you get started, the more time you have to enjoy it.

What do you think about age? Does it matter?
