I love this simple yet effective rule that Mel Robbins (1) coined. It’s a simple way to overcome procrastination and get moving.
Mel Robbins is a motivational speaker, television host and author. She recently launched her own chat show where she helps people take action.
She has quite a story. At 41, she was unemployed, facing bankruptcy, marriage spiralling, lacking in confidence and hitting the bottle hard as she puts it. She found herself unable to get out of bed most mornings. She always had an excuse.
Then one evening, she was watching TV and she saw a rocket launching. They were counting back 5 to 1 and the rocket launched. She thought to herself, what if, when the alarm rang, instead of thinking, I launch myself out of bed like a rocket.
And that’s what she did. She said it was a simple change that made all the difference. She used it in all sorts of areas to stop herself from thinking and take more action. She used it set up her business, get in shape, stops procrastinating and more.
I’m a big believer in the multiple action plan – tackling things on all fronts, putting together mindset work, changes to your environment and techniques that help you get going. This is a really nice and easy rule to remember to take the next step.
So what is it you want to do again? 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1. Launch.
