One person said that she was experiencing the 5 stages of the Kübler Ross Grief Cycle Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance (1). Elisabeth Kübler Ross was a Swiss Psychiatrist who wrote the book On Death and Dying. Although no one had died in their family, the person still felt loss around their right of movement and freedom.
A few have said they have felt lonely, especially those living alone. Many are used to working in a team or freely seeing their friends whenever they want. Others are unable to see their families due to travel bans and closed borders between countries. I have a good friend living in Hong Kong who is unable to see her husband as he lives in China.
As humans, we have a need to connect, so thank goodness for technology that we can do so. I was invited to a Zapero (apero on Zoom which I talk about in another blog), a birthday cake cutting event in Hong Kong, Whatsapp channels have been buzzing like crazy and we are adapting.
It’s special circumstances that none of us has ever experienced before, so be gentle with yourself. If you are experiencing all sorts of emotions, know that it’s normal and reach out to friends and family if you need help or support in any way.
Stay safe and look after yourself!
