The Schoolyard can be a tough place. I often have clients regress to scenes where they felt they didn’t fit in, were bullied or made fun of. It leaves lasting impressions where people think something is wrong with them or they don’t know what they did or didn’t do to have people turn on them. It’s so sad to see that these thoughts stay with them long into adulthood.

We often think that the “popular” kids had it easy but interestingly enough, someone who felt they were popular at school, still had feelings of insecurity and a strong need to fit in. The childhood and teenage years are the years where we want to fit in and be the same as everyone else. I know this very well myself and only felt that I found “my tribe” when I went to university.

One way to make peace with this is addressing the people and “negative scenes” using the Ho’oponopono, a powerful Hawaiian forgiveness prayer using the mantras “I am sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you” (1). It’s time to let go of these scenes, forgive those who were mean to you or forgive yourself if you were one of those being mean.

It’s in the past and you are no longer there, so there’s no point in continuing to carry the emotional baggage with you any longer.

Leave the schoolyard and feelings of inadequacy behind.
