Why is it important to know what we are thinking? If we are not aware of our thoughts and they are negative ones, they could be stopping you from doing something you want.
I’m often talking about the importance of becoming aware of our thoughts. It’s often easier said than done, so how can we catch ourselves?
Here are a few ideas:-
- Keep a diary so you can monitor what is going on in your life. It’s good to refer back to and you can see how you are developing.
- Journal on a topic that’s bothering you and see what comes up. In the beginning, we may not know what to write. Free write where you write whatever comes to mind even if it’s “I don’t know what to write…” or what may feel like rubbish and eventually something meaningful may show up.
- Speak to a friend as sometimes others can see things that we cannot. I’m sure you have been in a situation where you have seen something so clearly but the other person couldn’t. Don’t be afraid of asking someone you trust. It could save you a lot of time.
- Write down moments where you have been triggered and what emotion you felt. When you have calmed down, look back and see if there are any patterns and what you were thinking at the time.
