This is one of the nuggets from the virtual retreat hosted by Selena Soo. One of the things that came up for me was having a non-negotiable list for yourself. It made me really think – What would I put on this list?
A non-negotiable list are things that you want to do because they are super important to you, basically what it says – something that is non-negotiable for you. You could add the things you know are important to you but somehow you don’t always get around to, for example, your dance class that helps you express yourself, meditation that helps you feel more balanced or something else.
The first thing that came to mind was self-care. If I don’t look after myself properly, then I can’t work with my clients, can’t support my family in the way I want and do the things I want to do.
One clear item for the list was eating more healthily – it has become non-negotiable as I react with stomach aches if I eat things that do not work for me. I worked with a Functional Medicine Doctor and found a whole bunch of things that I can’t eat (lots of things like rice – yes, I’m Chinese and I can’t eat rice!, eggs, wheat, corn, gluten, peas, lentils, green beans, milk….) Most of my friends say – what can you eat? Other things I will add are my exercise sessions and my kung fu sessions. I’m still thinking about what else will go on but that is a good start.
What would you put on your non-negotiable list?
