It reminded me of when I first set up my old business years ago. I had just left a corporate job and was going back and forth about whether to go back or not. A business mentor that I was working with at the time helped me see that I was using up a lot of mind space and energy with this constant to-ing, fro-ing, and questioning.
She gave the example of a water mill. Once it’s up and running, it doesn’t take much energy to keep it going. However, if you keep stopping it, it takes a lot of effort to start it up again. This helped me make the decision to keep going.
Have you got any areas in your life where you are to-ing and fro-ing? Questioning if you should stay in your job? Whether you should stay in your flat? Wondering if you should move country?
Some things that have helped me get out of the to-ing and fro-ing loop were talking to a friend, seeking professional help, giving myself a deadline, writing pro and con lists, making a decision, and sticking with it for a period of time before re-evaluating.
Where would you like to stop to-ing and fro-ing?
