Happy New Year! I hope you have had a good start to 2024!
How were your holidays? Mine were surprisingly relaxing once the craziness of Christmas had come to a head. I sat down with some physical books so could truly wind down. Bliss!
We had some lovely moments and I’d like to share a little story from our holidays…
Preparing Christmas Eve Lunch
This Christmas Eve brought a delightful moment to our kitchen, one that had us all chuckling. As we embrace my husband’s Swedish tradition, our festivities kick off on the 24th of December, bustling with the preparation of turkey and festive trimmings.
Lucas, who’s become quite the kitchen companion, was set with the task of peeling carrots. Seated comfortably at the dining table, he tackled the task with his usual focus – pausing only for brief escapades into the world of books or screens – but with a little prompting – returning to finish the job.
Onto the cucumbers
With the carrots done, I handed him a cucumber and turned to my potatoes. It can’t have been more than a couple of minutes when I returned to find that Lucas’s enthusiasm hadn’t waned; it had simply… peeled away all evidence of a cucumber, save for the end caps and a sliver of green. I started laughing – it was one of those moments where you can’t help but laugh in the face of the unexpected.
It’s ok to let go…
In the past, I would have been right beside him, making sure he was doing it correctly. Yet, in the whirlwind of holiday preparation, I opted for multitasking—and that’s when the Chinese saying “The more you help, the busier it gets” couldn’t have rung truer.
We shared a good giggle, and I decided to let Lucas return to his entertainment. Sometimes, laughing it off and letting go leads to the best memories—and the lightest cucumbers.
