Recently some of my clients wanted to change their beliefs around relationships. Relationships are a huge part of our lives and when this area is working well, we are happier. This is why I often recommend The Five Love Languages book.

The author, Gary Chapman, explains that we feel love in different ways, through physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service and receiving gifts. We need these in varying degrees and typically give what we would like to receive.

He likens it to having a petrol tank of love, when we receive what we would like, the petrol tank fills up but if we don’t get what we need, the tank empties.

My love languages are quality time and acts of service. I’m over the moon when my husband helps me out with my website and I love spending time with my family.

My husband’s love languages are words of affirmation and physical touch. He’s always been one to say Thank you, for example thank you for cooking a lovely dinner. I used to think he was just polite and then I realized through this book that he actually needs words of affirmation to feel loved. As it’s not high on my love language list, I consciously make the effort to give him words of affirmation.

It revolutionized my own relationship and helped me understand my needs and others. What’s your love language? https://www.5lovelanguages.com/
