In 2013 when I was organizing the first Curious Courses Day, a big event with 19 different speakers, I was paralyzed. There was so much to do in such a short space of time that I found myself like a bunny in headlights. Frozen to the spot most mornings.

I was absolutely freaking out how I was going to get everything done. There were a few things that helped me get out of my “major” procrastination. One huge help was my husband sitting down with me every morning asking me “What are you working on today?”

With the smallest possible step, day by day, bit by bit, we got things done. I was amazed at how all these little steps added up and we had the most amazing first Curious Courses Day.

Recently, I was given the book “One Small Step can Change your Life” by Robert Maurer. It’s a short and easy read. It explains how your brain is programmed to resist change, so by taking small steps, you bypass the fight or flight response, allowing you to move forward.

“A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step” – Lao Tzu. It’s up to you how big that step is. If you’re scared, make it as small as possible. Make it so small there’s no way you cannot do it. After that step, you can take the next.
