“Each of us is a brain, athlete, basket case, princess and criminal”
Last night, on a recommendation, I watched the classic 1985 coming of age movie “The Breakfast Club” (1) for the first time.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s a group of very different kids serving detention on a Saturday. As the day unfolds, they find they have more in common than they first think.
They all have a strong need to belong to their different group of friends, often afraid of what their friends think and “mould” themselves to fit in. It’s a strong human need to belong to a “tribe” which in days of old would mean a greater chance of survival.
I often come across hypnotherapy scenes with clients who struggled through childhood or teenage years to belong. I know this feeling myself going through high school.
As an adult, you may find yourself not speaking up, not saying no, not doing what you love because you are afraid of what your family, friends or people in general may think or say.
There will always be people that don’t agree with you and if you focus on them, it’s hard to do what you want and help those that need you.
The good news, as an adult, you choose your beliefs and thoughts. The past is done and it’s time to let it go.
Now you choose who and what you want to belong to.

Beautifully written, well done! Do you plan to write a follow-up?
Hi Adriena, what would you like to know more about for a follow up? Selina
